Description: Eikenella corrodens is a member of the normal human microflora for the oral, respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts. This organism, however, can cause opportunistic infections, including abscesses (usually associated with a bite wound), endocarditis and meningitis.

Eikenella corrodens is a fastidious Gram-negative facultative anaerobic bacillus. It was first identified by M. Eiken in 1958, who called it Bacteroides corrodens.
