Description: Gardnerella vaginalis. Gardnerella vaginalis is a gram-variable, obligate anaerobic bacterium. The bacterium is the most prevalent sexually transmitted organism and associated with bacterial vaginosis. The bacterium has also been associated with bacteremia, urinary track infections, and neonatal meningitis.
