Description: Parvimonas micra, formerly Peptostreptococcus micros, is a member of normal microbial flora of the human mouth and gastrointestinal tract. In one comprehensive 16S rDNA sequence-based enumeration of the colonic microbiota of three healthy adult humans it represents, on average, 0.042% of all 16S rDNA sequences and 0.083% of the sequences in its division (Eckburg et. al. (2005)). This organism has also been isolated from lung and abdominal infections and skin and soft tissue abscesses.
